چکیده

Photinini is the largest tribe of Lampyrinae fireflies, with over 30 genera and nearly 750 species, includes taxa where adults may or not have light organs. A focus on bioluminescent left taxonomy dark fireflies in poor condition compared to lit adults. recent phylogenetic study based molecular data supported transfer Scissicauda McDermott, 1964—traditionally placed Amydetinae due flabellate antenna its type species—to at a branch sided Pyropyga Motschulsky, 1852 Pyractonema Solier, 1849. Such placement had never been recovered before morphology-based studies, consequences for interpretation character evolution this lineage are yet be addressed. Moreover, was previously thought endemic Atlantic Forest. Here, through analyses 38 108 morphological characters, we (i) expand concept include S. antennata sp. nov., asymmetrica aurata biflabellata gomesi jamari neyi truncata (ii) Lucidota malleri Pic, 1935 and, therefore, comb. nov. We also recover + as sister Haplocauda, providing first evidence their sisterhood. Noteworthy, new species stand out known biflabellate antennae. In addition, our reports Amazon (S. nov.) Cerrado biome nov.). Our highlights value continued sampling South American towards revised classification deeper understanding lineage.

Genome size of 14 species of fireflies (Insecta, Coleoptera, Lampyridae)

Eukaryotic genome size data are important both as the basis for comparative research into genome evolution and as estimators of the cost and difficulty of genome sequencing programs for non-model organisms. In this study, the genome size of 14 species of fireflies (Lampyridae) (two genera in Lampyrinae, three genera in Luciolinae, and one genus in subfamily incertae sedis) were estimated by pro...

Ybytyramoan, a new genus of fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae, Lampyrinae, Photinini) endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest, with description of three new species.

Here we describe a new Photinina genus with three species endemic to Serra dos Órgãos Mountains in Brazil. Ybytyramoan gen. nov. occurs in high altitudes, from 980m up to 2000m, and has the following unique set of characters: head abruptly depressed at vertex; lanterns not fully developed, somewhat rounded or anteriorly rounded, straight posteriad, with posterolateral rounded projections (billy...

Phylogeny of North American fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae): implications for the evolution of light signals.

Representatives of the beetle family Lampyridae ("fireflies", "lightningbugs") are well known for their use of light signals for species recognition during mate search. However, not all species in this family use light for mate attraction, but use chemical signals instead. The lampyrids have a worldwide distribution with more than 2000 described species, but very little is known about their phy...

Larval and pupal morphology of Pyractonema nigripennis Solier (Coleoptera: Lampyridae: Photinini) and comparative notes with other Photinini larvae

The last larval stage and pupal stage of Pyractonema nigripennis Solier, an endemic species from southern Chile and Argentina, are described and illustrated. Pyractonema Olivier is included in the tribe Photinini, Subtribe Lucidotina, and the larva and pupa of P. nigripennis are compared to those of Lucidota atra (Olivier) and related lampyrid genera.

Systematics and phylogenetics of Indo-Pacific Luciolinae fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) and the description of new genera.

This revision completes a taxonomic survey of fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) in the area encompassed by Australia, the Republic of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia (West Irian/Papua), Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. It finalises the taxonomic issues arising from the 1969–70 voyage of the scientific vessel Alpha Helix to New Guinea. The fir...
